Did You Know?

Unemployment

There are two measures of unemployment. Firstly the number of people claiming job seekers allowance. Data on this can be viewed on the following page:

The second source of information on unemployment is from the Office for National Statistics. This is based on the ILO definition of unemployment. It includes people out of work, looking for work but not necessarily claiming JSA. The district data are modelled results based on the Annual Population Survey (APS) and the claimant count. It is subject to sampling differences (confidence levels are added to this dataset by using drop down menus).

The Annual population survey carried out by the Office for National Statistics is the best source of information on economic activity and employment levels. Information on levels of activity, inactivity, and employment can be found on the links below.

The Business Register and Employment Survey produces results on employment per industrial sector. Data from this survey at district level can be found on the link below.

ONS published the number of businesses per indsutrial group and by size for regions and districts. Data on this source of information at district level for the whole of England is below.

The Office for National Statistics publish data on survival rates of business. Data on the percentage of business surviving after trading for 1 and 3 years can be found below.

Earnings

Figures on earnings at district level can be gained from the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings produced by the Office for National Statistics.

National Insurance Number Allocations to Adult Overseas Nationals

A national insurance number is required before taking up employment. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) publishes data on new national insurance numbers (NINo) given to adult overseas nationals. This report provides details on the data for Milton Keynes from 2002/3 to 2011/12.
